French 19th Century Neoclassical Style Mahogany and Ormolu Jardinière Planter

About the Item

A striking and most unique French 19th century neo-classical st. mahogany and ormolu jardinière planter. The planter is raised by impressive gazelle shaped legs with handsome ormolu hoof feet. The circular shaped planter displays four elegant recessed panels showcasing the beautiful flamed mahogany grain framed within striking ormolu bands with finely detailed palmettes designs. The two sides display impressive thick scrolled handles with pierced floral reserves while the front and back are each decorated with a beautiful finely chased scrolled floral baskets. Each panel is separated by decorative elongated foliate amphorae with lovely draped floral garlands. Above is the original fitter circular insert framed within a fine mahogany band.
