Granite carved stone Mortar/ Planter, England 20th century Lots of patina H 20cm

About the Item

This is a very well preserved and patinated massive stone mortar / planter. Showing some patina from a past life in a garden. Could be used inside or outside in any rooms even in the bathroom. Very warm feeling. ________________________________________________________ L'industrialisation commence en Grande-Bretagne dans les décennies 1770-1780, avec le recours aux machines à vapeur, alimentées par la houille, qui pallie l'insuffisante production de charbon de bois. Elle se propage dans l'Europe de l'Ouest à partir de 1820 et accélère grâce au boom ferroviaire des années 1840. Ce processus est aussi lié à la Révolution agricole du xviiie siècle. La France y entre selon les mêmes modalités en 1820-1830 avec la généralisation des métiers à tisser et la construction des premières voies de chemin de fer sous Louis-Philippe. Le développement des manufactures au début du xviiie siècle constitue la véritable première révolution industrielle en France, avec toutes les caractéristiques du capitalisme français. Puis vers 1870, arrivent l'Allemagne, le Canada, les États-Unis qui concurrencent la France et le Royaume-Uni. Dès 1890, on assiste à l'essor de la Russie et du Japon. Devant cette lente diffusion et également sa pérennité, des historiens préfèrent aujourd'hui le terme d'âge industriel à celui de révolution. L'industrialisation fut aussi contestée par certains acteurs politiques. Ainsi, le journal Le Figaro, dans son éditorial du 7 octobre 1931, affirme : « Quant à nous, félicitons-nous de notre économie timide et prospère, en face de l’économie présomptueuse et décadente des races anglo-saxonnes… Il faut dénoncer ces formidables concentrations d’industries, cet excessif effort du machinisme, cette rationalisation poussant la production à outrance, cette civilisation du capitalisme dégénéré, acoquinée au communisme marxiste et à l’anticivilisation »
