Monumental Provincial Chinese Bathtub, c. 1800

About the Item

With its grand scale and perfect proportions, this rustic wooden bathtub is true showstopper. The tub has an elongated, oval shape is comprised of thick cypress wood staves held together by three iron bands. Two iron handles on either side of the basin allow it to be easily moved about a space. Dated to the early 19th century, the wood exhibits beautifully irregular grain patterns and a warm, richly aged patina that only time can achieve. An incredible way to add rustic texture to the home, we love this gorgeous bathtub as a garden planter, a firewood bin, or a spot for extra blankets and pillows. Currently, this piece is not watertight.

At high heat, vapors swirl around the objects staining the clay with haphazard swirls of color. With its distinctive coloration and wide, open profile, this monumental vessel...
