About the Item

A striking and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Porcelain and Ormolu centerpiece planter, attributed to Henri Picard. This stunning enameled Porcelain centerpiece is raised on an exceptional and richly detailed square Ormolu base with block rosettes at each corner flanking draped fabrics before the acorn finials. The socle pedestal is decorated with a berried laurel band below the beautiful Porcelain body, with finely hand painted scenes of charming cherubs at play, between beautiful cobalt blue colored bands. To each side are intricately detailed winged cherubs with etched details below elegant geometric handles accented with acanthus leaves. Above is the exquisite and most decorative spiral fluted rim with a twisted band before the patinated interior. Henri Picard (1831-1890) was a renowned 19th century French Bronzier, and founded The Maison Picard Paris, in 1831. The firm was active until circa 1890. Picard’s works are known for high quality chasing and magnificent mercury gilding. Picard was commissioned by Emperor Napoleon III for decorative items for his apartments in the Royal and Imperial Château Fontainebleau, which are now on exhibit in the Louvre. As well, an important pair of twelve-light candelabras, that remain in the Musée du Louvre today. Henri Picard is highly regarded by antique experts and collectors alike.
