Rare Pair of Carved Italian Marble Stoups, Giallo Reale

About the Item

These exquisite Italian Holy Water vessels or stoups have been hand-carved out of beautiful, old Giallo Reale marble. Along the front and back sides, there are cartouches surrounding an oval white and grey marble egg motif. The shaped pedestal beneath the basin has an acanthus leaf sphere which rests upon an octagonal shaped base. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is excellent. Today, these vessels can be re-purposed into sinks, planters, fountains, or simply decorative elements. Of course, they can once again be used in chapels as stoups. Measures: H=40 1/2, width 1=26 3/4, width 2=27 1/2, depth=23 1/2.

  • Antique Marble Basin from an Italian Villa, Early 1900s
    Located in Dallas, TX
Salvaged from the garden of an Italian villa, this marble basin was hand-carved in the early 1900’s and most recently used as a planter. The ovate shaped bowl has an exterior width of 31 inches and has a small drainage hole in the bottom. A square, rough-cut block that extends from the backside would be used to affix the basin to a wall. The gray marble is naturally weathered, giving the stone a matte finish with a nice speckled black patina. Not only would this piece be a unique garden planter, the antique basin...

  • Well Carved Italian Limestone Planter or Fountain Element, H-45 Inches
    Located in Dallas, TX
Standing over 45 inches tall, this well-carved limestone planter or fountain element would have a commanding presence in any landscape installation. Hand-carved in Italy in two sections (the basin is separate from the column/plinth section), a central drainage hole runs through both sections, allowing it to be plumbed for a fountain, either as a spill bowl or with a vertical jet. The basin is six inches tall and has a diameter of almost 30 inches and is adorned with two layers of gadroon separated by a deep cavetto cornice. Interestingly, the bottom ring of lobes terminates beneath a large, attenuated leaf that can be seen under the basin. The beautifully carved basin is supported by an equally impressive, fluted column above a bulbous third section of gadroon. A thickly molded circular plinth with a large leaf cup offers stability and additional aesthetic appeal. The light gray stone has developed a mottled white, gold, and black patina with green and brown moss/lichen accumulation. Our Italian limestone planter could be used in a garden as an elevated planter...
