19th Century French Carved and Weathered Outdoor Stone Planter with Cherub

About the Item

Decorate a garden or a patio with this large and elegant antique planter. Crafted in Normandy France, circa 1860, and built in one piece, the tall stone flower pot stands on a square base, and features a carved draped putto holding the basin. The heavy jardinière is in excellent condition with its original weathered patinated finish, and would make an elegant statement in any backyard or on a patio. Drainage hole throughout. Weight 188 pounds! A putto (plural putti) or cherub, is a figure in a work of art depicted as a chubby male child, usually naked or draped, and sometimes winged. Originally limited to profane passions in symbolism, the putto came to represent the sacred cherub (plural cherubim), and in Baroque art the putto came to represent the omnipresence of God.
