19th Century Heraldic Lion and Unicorn Statues
About the Item
An outstanding pair of cast statues on associated plinths, possibly cast in Portland Cement, of the Unicorn of Scotland and the Lion of England. Since 1603 these have featured on the Royal Coat of arms, aside the Royal Standard. The incredibly detailed statues are both flat backed and can be removed from their plinths (they are kept in place by two iron rod that are fixed into the bottom of each statue).
Small amounts of nibbling around each of the bases and to the edge of the Unicorn and Lion and with the usual mossing and weathering, as to be expected with antique pieces of this nature.
Both are of superb proportions and would equally grace any exterior or interior setting.
