Antique Marbled Plaster Statue of Hebe

About the Item

An antique marbled plaster statue of Hebe, the goddess of youth, after Antonio Canova. Made in plaster, the exterior of this life size sculptures is made to simulate marble, making this quite the impactful statue. It is perfect to use as a striking centrepiece for any property looking to add beauty and grandeur to its interior. Dating to the early 19th century, the goddess stands with her hair tied up in a floral wreath, her hands on her hips in loose flowing robes, on a circular base. Antonio Canova’s iconic sculpture of Hebe, circa 1800, inspired sonnets and poems celebrating its beauty and grace. The artist beautifully captures Hebe, the goddess of youth, as she descends gracefully from the clouds. The sculpture was in such demand that Canova created no less than four full size versions for some of the most esteemed collectors of the era. Even after he died, his workshop continued to produce additional versions of this beloved masterpiece. This sculpture captures the spirit and beauty of the original, making it a stunning addition to any property. Base diameter 50cm (19.69in)
