Pair Life Size Chinese Handcut Marble Wengzhong Statues
About the Item
These statues are commonly referred to as Wengzhong. They are so named after a mythological Ruan Weng Zhong who was a highly regarded general during the Qin Shi Huang period. Ruan is said to distinguished himself in fighting their arch rival; the Huns. The military officer wears a highly detailed armor and holds his hands together, giving him the appearance of looking very determined and powerful. The civilian, on the other hand, wears an official and very striking hat and holds the authoritative court scepter in one hand; giving him the appearance of a benevolent philosopher. This pair of hand carved statues were retrieved from the lobby of a Park Avenue building in Manhattan. Minor chips. Priced as a pair. Please note, this item is located in one of our NYC locations.
