Antique Shanks Stoneware Basin

About the Item

An antique Shanks & Co stoneware basin. Dating to the late 19th century, this Bute model has an elegant glazed rounded shape and comes supplied modern nickel plated taps, as pictured. The generous basin and style would make for a stunning new addition to a Victorian townhouse or period property. Shanks & Co Shanks & Co Ltd was founded by John Shanks in partnership with his brother Andrew in 1851 and quickly became an iconic British company. Based in Paisley, Scotland, together they went on to achieve worldwide success supplying and fitting sanitary ware, including on the Titanic and cruise ships Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth – making this original sink a quality find to become the focal point of any antique style bathroom.     Good structural condition. Fitted with plug waste and chain. Crazed surface finish with some discolouration. Modern nickel plated taps included, as pictured. Comes with cast iron wall bracket to attach to wall.

Dating between circa 1890 to 1910 and twice the standard size, this sink is a Trone model, and incorporates Victorian and Edwardian styles.
