About the Item
Hand carved stone container fountain trough basin planter antique farm sink LA. Late 17th early 18th century small water fountain basin of hand carved stone container. It was against the wall applique part of a natural water source fountain for centuries, carved out deep to hold a good amount of water. They had multiple holes drilled so they could regulate the flow of water according to the season. In the winter when the natural water source is at the most output, they would unplug the corks or teak plugs to prevent the overflow. And in the spring and summer when the springs water supply from the melting snow becomes less, they would plug as many holes with wood corks as needed so the basin can retain enough water for the people to drink with the mug. (attaching pictures)
Color and patina keeps changing with the light and the seasons. This trough could be installed with a simple bronze metal spout or a carved stone fountain head, we have many options of them, in order to create a charming garden water fountain. A nice size stone trough from Provence. The centuries left its marks on this container and a very nice patina. You can flip it upside down to create a large Stone base pedestal to mount your art or sculptures. Variation in the color over the seasons. The patina keeps changing. Irregular dimensions.
