Chinese Antique Bamboo Basket with Painted Lid
About the Item
Beautiful two-tier basket features painted, gilded images of an opera scene showing a victorious battle. Basket is lacquered in cinnabar, a special mix of colors with ingredients derived from nature, such as sap of trees, ox blood, and minerals. Original paint in the prettiest pale pink remains visible inside the basket. Elegant, wave like green borders decorate the basket, giving it visual interest. Such a basket were used in wealthy households to carry meals from the kitchen to the dining room which were located in separate buildings. This is a very large, spectacular basket with all original parts.
