About the Item

Akasma Basket Tall is an object made in bent glass designed by Satyendra Pakhalé. It is a contemporary centerpiece with a distinct image representing in certain way the essence of making things. The vertical space opening between the two identical bent glass parts creates a sensorial experience enhancing the perceptual effect of the bent glass object. Its design represents a long lasting almost eternal form, giving a delightful note to your table setting. The transparent blue glass piece performs as a prominent standalone object or can be used as a fruit basket creating a refreshing contemporary feel in any interior space. The name ‘Akasma’ means ‘as if something happened suddenly’. This name is given to this collection of centerpieces because the objects finally look as if they just born with ease and almost by chance. However the actual making is a real challenge. With Akasma the complex forming and bending of this sensuous material in an industrial craft process results in a highly precise object that is iconic, gracious and appealing. The glass centerpieces Akasma feature in the public collections of Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Canada, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, The Netherlands and the Centre national des arts plastiques Paris, France. ‘Akasma’ Basket Tall is a part of Akasma Centerpiece Set consisting of three items - Akasma Basket Tall, Akasma Basket and Akasma Tray. All the pieces are made in an Italian factory producing architectural glass and using an innovative bent glass process that is a blend of high-tech and high craftsmanship.
