19th Century Exceptional Burmese Solid Silver Thabeik Bowl, Rangoon, c.1880
About the Item
Antique 19th Century Exceptional Burmese, Myanmar solid silver thabeik bowl, repousse' decorated in high relief depicting different traditional scenes from the Burmese mythology, showing detailed figures set against a chiseled matted background in continuous landscape. The top chased with scrolling bands and base decorated with a thick band of betel leaves. The quality of the bowl is outstanding, heavy gauge and very crisp. Base engraved with the stylized signature of a tiger, one of the best known 20th century Burmese silversmiths, whose highly decorative designs are very distinctive and sought after. (see Wilkinson's page 41).
