"Deer in the Tropics, " Large, Rare Art Deco Bowl with High Relief, Boulton

About the Item

A rare Art Deco bowl richly detailed with the figure of a leaping deer in a lush, tropical environment, this piece was no doubt designed by Enoch Boulton for the Crown Devon company in England. Founded in the 1870s in Stoke-on-Trent, Crown Devon was known for high quality Majolica ware for decades, but in the 1920s and 1930s, it moved into Art Deco design. This example of stylized bas relief design is unusual and scarce.
