"Gathering Around the Table, " Large, Rare Mid-Century Bowl by Meister
About the Item
Deliberately and charmingly naive and Primitive in style, reminiscent of some of the WPA-sponsored work produced in America, this large and very rare decorated bowl was produced by the Meister ceramic works in Dubendorf, outside Zurich, Switzerland. The domestic scene shown here includes a man playing the flute, a woman reading and another female figure bringing a platter of lobster to the table, with a cat and jug on the floor. The bottom of the bowl is well marked.
