George Hugo Tabor Arts & Crafts Large Copper Grape Vine Fruit Bowl

About the Item

An exceptional and unique hand-crafted Arts & Crafts heavy large copper fruit bowl with molded fruiting vines by renowned artist George Hugo Tabor (British, 1857-1920) and dating from around 1880. George Hugo Tabor joined Doulton Lambeth in 1881 and was renowned for his foliate ornamentation which was often boldy incised or carved into vases and bowls. He was one of the most renowned artists at Doulton and his work is both rare and valued by collectors. The wonderful bowl which needs to be handled to be appreciated follows Tabor’s artistic merits with its heavily embossed patterning in thick heavy gauge copper with a central recessed bowl. The flat edge is beautifully embellished with a scrolling continuous fruiting vine pattern with leaves and grapes and is very similar in style to some of the work undertaken at Doulton Lambeth. The bowl stands on a narrow round foot and has a signature to the edge of the bowl element. The bowl has a natural unpolished aged patina with natural elements of reddening in places. A wonderful example of the Arts & Crafts movement at its very best! Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market. In good condition.
