"Golden Fish in a Dark Blue Sea", Art Deco Bowl/Dish by Auguste Heiligenstein

About the Item

Lovely and unique, this footed bowl or dish depicts two golden fish, incised into the clay and then glazed in gold, swimming in a dark blue sea flecked with deep green. The artist was Auguste Heiligenstein, known for creating pieces with exotic scenes, sometimes his own creations, sometimes made in partnership with his wife, Odette. The artist was known for outlining his figures in gold, though here the fish and waves are entirely in gold. The piece is signed on the bottom.
