Hand cast Phiale form libation bowl in white brass, 1800's

About the Item

Unique hand cast and hand finished Phiale form libation bowl in white brass. The lower half of the basin is ribbed with scolloped fluting, and above is a flat corseted reserve resolving in a flared rim. The interior of the bowl and rim are decorated with hand stamped circular punch work stringing. The form is that of a classical Greek inspired Phiale ritual libation bowl. This type of ceremonial basin was made and used across the Eastern Mediterranean and as far east as Tibet.
