Large Art Populaire bowl, France, ca. 1880

About the Item

Large Monoxyle dough bowl, Auvergne - France 19th century. Very nice piece of 'art populair' an object made by craftsmen to be used to assist in their work. This particular bowl was made is made for kneading dough, so it have been the tool of a bakery or a family who made bread. It comes from the Auvergne, a region in the middle of France. The bowl has nice decorative engravings and a stunning patina. Very decorative piece which would be lovely as a very big fruit bowl on a table or kitchen counter.

    Rare large bowl by Bruno Gambone, Italy, 1970. Outstanding large object in a fantastic bright yellow glaze with a dark brown / aubergine line on the in- and outside. A beautiful crackle pattern is visible inside the bowl, beautiful warm texture. In excellent condition. Signed on the bottom. Bruno Gambone was the son of Guido Gambone, born in Vietri sul Mare (Salerno) on 18th October 1936. After a brief period working in ceramics beginning at the age of 14 in his father's studio in Florence and later in Andrea d'Arienzo's ceramic factory in Florence until the end of the 1950s. Determined to make his own way and explored other artistic experiences, such as fabric decoration and painting. In 1959 he held his first exhibition of paintings in the La Strozzina Gallery in Florence. In 1963 he moved to the United States and spent a few years in New York. Here, he moved among artists like Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, and gained much experience in the fields of painting, sculpture, cinema and theatre. Five years later, he returned to Italy. He chose Milan as his residence. Here he made contact with various artists including Enrico Castellani, Lucio Fontana, Paolo Scheggi...
