Large Red Marble Mortar '18th Century, North Italy'
About the Item
This uniquely beautiful mortar was carved from a solid block of red Verona marble (Northern Italy). On the surface of each of the four handles is carved a flower-like design. Mortars were used in the kitchens or in apothecaries to crush the herbs into powder for medicinal purposes.
