Mid-Century Modern Ceramic Bowl by Peter Orlando

About

A glazed earthenware bowl with a biomorphic shape and stylized abstract design by the ceramist and painter Peter Orlando (1921-2009). Though born in the US, Orlando studied in France and, along with his wife, Denise, opened a workshop and studio in Paris (1953-1968). His designs are reminiscent of Miro and his mastery of line recalls Calder mobiles. A beautiful and exceptional Mid-Century Modern ceramic work. Signed: P. Orlando. Reference: French Pottery of the 1950s by Pierre Staudenmeyer, Norma Editions, p. 232.
