Porter Blanchard Large Handmade Floriform Bottle Coaster for Shreve Crump & Low

About

A large vintage wine or champagne bottle coaster in hand-hammered pewter by the renowned American silversmith and metal worker, Porter George Blanchard (1886-1973). This elegant hollowware vessel was designed in a floriform Arts & Crafts style with visible Hammer marks and polished to a highly reflective silver finish. The coaster was designed to accommodate a large, magnum size bottle of wine or champagne but is an ideal size for keys, coins, and business cards on a desktop or entry table. The bowl is in very good condition with a removable cork insert, measuring 2.25 in. height x 6.5 in. diameter. The vessel retains its original green felt dust pouch from Shreve Crump & Low. The base bears Blanchard's logo over POTER Blanchard / handmade PEWTER / USA / 806.. Porter Blanchard spent his career in California, maintaining studios in Burbank, followed by Hollywood, and Pacoima. He was a member of the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts; his designs in silver and art metal are in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Oakland Museum of California, and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. Provenance: The estate of American singer, songwriter, and actress, Leslie Gore. Magnum-sized champagne bottle is pictured for scale and not included with this purchase.
