"Sea Dragon with Chevrons, " Large, Unique Art Deco Bowl by Kåge for Gustavsberg
About the Item
Stunning and gorgeous, and the only example we have seen, this Art Deco porcelain bowl -- glazed in a blue-green hue and finished with carved, silver overlay -- depicts a fantastic sea dragon on the exterior, and is finished with an elaborate, concentric chevron pattern on the interior. Designed by Wilhelm Kåge for the famed Gustavsberg porcelain works near Stockholm, this bowl is part of a large series of works that typically depict aquatic themes such as mermaids and fish. This example, with its large and elaborate sea dragon, is highly unusual, and the chevron pattern is entirely unique in our experience. The bowl is well marked.
