When lava spills down from a volcano into bodies of water or is pushed up from craters below, it creates islands of new earth that change our landscape forever. Studio Greytak’s Crystal Bling Bowl 37 mimics this molten flow of creation with abstract tendrils of copper, the metal of transformation, rising over a hand carved crystal landscape. Softly gleaming spires of this beautiful, reddish-orange metal look down on the deeply carved smokey quartz. Shaped over eons by heat and pressure, copper has long been considered the conduit between Heaven and Earth. Here it sits on a deep pool of hand carved quartz crystal. Quartz, known as the master healer, amplifies the transformative power of the piece. Healers call copper the “metal of the magician” for its ability to channel energies and transform the invisible to the visible. Copper is most likely the first metal used by humans. One of the few metals that occur in nature without needing extraction from an ore, it was used as a substitute for stone as early as 8000 BC.
