Swedish 1950s Stoneware Bowl by Carl Harry Stålhane, Rörstrand Company

About the Item

Swedish Scandinavian Decorative Dish Bowl designed by prominent Swedish designer Carl-Harry Stålhane for the Rörstrand company in Sweden. This decorative bowl features a blue mettled appearance, complemented by edges in tones of green and brown. Its fluid form to this day remains one of Stålhanes most famous and beloved designs. Stålhane ranked among the most prominent and accomplished Swedish designers of the 20th century. In 1939, at first under the leadership of Gunnar Nylund, he began his work with Rörstrand, Europe's second oldest ceramics company, gaining prominence within not only Swedish design but rose to prominence in the wider European context. He studied under prominent Swedish artist Isaac Grünewald as well as at the Academie Colarossi under the tutorship of Ossip Zadkine. Wear consistent with age and use.
