Alice and Eugene Chanal Art Nouveau Pewter Box, France 1910
About the Item
Alice Chanal and Eugene-Louis Chanal designed this lovely French Art Nouveau uniquely illustrated handwrought "Dinanderie" pewter round covered box with a beautiful polished patina. The round and flat saucer shape has a typical Art Nouveau stylized floral embossed design on the lid with a high-rise bead finial. The engraved signature is on the underside and reads AE Chanal.
The box is in good condition, with a tiny bump on the side of the box, but it does not significantly affect the overall appearance. Check the close-up.
Measurements: 5.50 in diameter (14 cm) x 2.38 in high (6 cm).
Note: Alice Chanal ( 1872-1951 ) and Eugène Louis Chanal ( 1872 - 1925 ) were both born in Brussels, Belgium, but established their studio in Paris in 1902. They worked as a husband and wife team in metalware "dinanderie" in their craft shop in Paris, France.
