Antique Walnut Brass-Mounted Stationery Box, circa 1860

About the Item

This is a superb antique Victorian walnut stationery box of domed form with elaborate decorative brass mounts, circa 1860 in date. The hinged domed lid opens to reveal a silk and paper lined divided interior which will accommodate all your letters & notes. The box is applied with Gothic cut card brass work and has a silver shield on top which is inscribed: Presented together with a gold chain and silver whistle to Super Intendant William Jarvis by a few of his friends at St. Helen's, August 31st 1860 This is a highly decorative piece which will make a statement once placed on any period desk. Provenance: The Dr. Lawrie Webster Collection of Boxes Complete with working lock and original key.
