About the Item
Luxurious and rare antique opal glass box. This kind of jewelry boxes was mainly made in France, Italy and formerly Bohemia. They were made from the early 19th century to the early 20th century. The heyday of opaline boxes, however, was around 1850. Opaline glass is manufactured in Europe and is a coveted collector's item because of its semi-opaque coloring and seamless appearance. The containers are mouth-blown, hinges with gilded bronze. with so many colorful shapes, these antique beauties are great to collect and mix and match.
Opline glass boxes are antique collectibles that also fit into a modern environment. The design of the boxes is very clear and sharp, absolutely elegant and timeless. Collecting several such objects creates a cheerful and colorful mix.
This casket is made of heavy light grey opaline glass, and has an enamel painting on the top and the sides. The hinge is in good condition, it closes perfectly and is finely decorated with an acanthus ornament.
