Dutch silver lidded box with 17th century scenes by Jan Steen
A large Dutch silver box with a high round lid, raised on four legs of dolphins. The box decorated in high relief with scenes of the 17th Century by the Dutch painter Jan Steen and handles in a ring shape with dolphins. Cheerful scenes of the 17th Century, The Golden Age by Jan Steen of dancing, playing a board game, a man and a woman in a landscape, smoking a pipe, a teacher learning to read. The box was made by Fa. gebr. Niekerk, B. Dijkstra in Groningen, dated 1911. The box has the Dutch silver hall marks of "Lion 2" for 835/000 purity of silver. The minerva head (assayers mark) "E" for Groningen, used between 1814-1927. The Year letter B for 1911 and the Silver smith hall mark. (N2) The lock is working, but there is no key available. The lock is marked with the silver hall mark "sword" used between 1906-1953. The measurement is 16 cm high, 11.5 cm wide and 9.5 cm deep.
