About the Item
Two rare boxes by Jean Derval.
Glazed ceramic lids with bird shaped handle, olive wood box.
Small variations in decoration and bird's shapes and sizes
"Terre Chamotée" technique : The raw clay is mixed white " Chamotte" ( cooked and ground clay ) to give it texture.
Each box is one of a kind.

Vallauris, circa 1955 .
In 1947, Jean Derval joined Robert Picault and Roger Capron in Vallauris were they shared a workshop.
In 1949 he joined Madoura, the famous workshop where he worked side to side with Picasso during 2 years.
In 1951, he created his own work shop "Le Portail"
He made the demanding choice of creating « pièces uniques ", unique pieces.
