ABOUT Original studio, handcrafted wood jewelry box by California woodworker, Dean Santner. Expertly crafted in walnut. Pull out center drawer lined in blue felt. CREATOR Dean Santner, Berkeley, CA. DATE OF MANUFACTURE c.1960-1970. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Wood, Felt. CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. DIMENSIONS H 4 in. x W 5 in. x D 4.5 in. HISTORY Santner, a San Francisco Bay Area artist, started his wood practice in the late 1960s. Early in his career, he offered his good for sale on Telegraph in Berkeley, CA. His work has been included in numerous juried craft exhibitions and is included in the collection of the Oakland Museum. About his pieces, he said Every design is worked through the shop in small groups, allowing each piece to receive enough attention to reveal its individual character. Special regard is given to knots, figure, grain and texture, and how they will affect the finished piece; no two are alike.
