About the Item
A betel nut box. Hill Tribe Betel Nut Box, from the Hill Tribes that live amongst Thailand and Loa borders in the mountain hills. Hand made of hard wood with geometric incised carved decoration. A beautiful tribal folk art box originally used in the practice of consuming Betel Nut. Betel nut is the seed from fruit of the areca palm prepared with powder chewed considered a stimulant that can produce alertness similar to caffeine in coffee. These boxes are collectable, also noted as being indigenous true forms of folk art of the Hill Tribes in the Golden Triangle region. The designs and carvings are usually representinve of a particular Tribe. These boxes can be used daily holding anything that fits in them. They make wonderful decorative accents each one truly unique one of a kind artistic treasures. In good condition with its patina, solid and strong.
