Italian 19th Century Antique Pietra Dura Mosaic Chest Box in Gilt Bronze
About the Item
A Pietra Dura brass box.
Beautiful antique little box, created probably in Napoles, Italy as a treasure chest, circa 1880s. It was crafted in solid gilded brass with nice Baroque engravings of organics motifs. Embellished on top, with an oval shaped (50 x 40 mm) Pietra Dura element, with the figure of a bird made up from color gemstones inlaid.
The gemstones are, black onyx, green malachite, white nacre, sienna jasper and red jasper.
Period: 19th century.
Weight: 339.6 Grams
Measures: 90 mm by 70 mm by 58 mm (3.54 x 2.76 x 2.28 Inches).
Condition: The overall condition is decent, with some rim bumps that don't distract. The lock and the key are missing. The Pietra Dura segment is in perfect condition, with very rich colors.
