Italian 19th Century Braided Straw Box from a Monastery in Umbria Region

About the Item

An Italian straw work box decorated everywhere with extraordinary straw-work geometrical marquetry on a wooden structure, coated even inside and at the bottom. This Italian box, has a rectangular shape, hand-realized in an antique abbey in Umbria region, by a Benedictine nun, according to the famous ora et labora rule. This antique Italian box dates back to the mid of 19th century, is good condition, with a working original lock, key and shaped hole cover, a replaced brass lid hinge on the back. Minor straw losses and wear consistent with use and age. A lovely antique Italian handmade box for collectors. Measures: Height 7 cm x width 22 cm x depth 7 cm This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago requires a governative licence for export called Belle Arti.
