A Japanese Edo Period Lacquer Kogo (Incense) Box, late 17/early 18th Century

About the Item

Early Japanese Lacquer Incense Box (Kogo) Late 17thc. Of rectangular form with soft corners, decorated with a diaper pattern in gold lacquer on a brownish black ground, with pewter rims. Dimensions: 2.25 × 4 × 2.5 in. Condition: Some age appropriate wear: lacquer worn from top of box where it would be handled, to pewter edges, to base. One corner of top with a small gouge. Some chips to lacquer at base edges.
