Madeline Book Box
About the Item
This one of a kind piece by Catie Curry, a Brooklyn based ceramicist and interior designer, is part of her Book Box collection. The above listed piece is available for immediate purchase, but other books can be recreated upon request. This piece consists of two parts: the box and the lid.
The Book Box collection is a great way to add a touch of literary magic to your living space, whether it be something nostalgic and youthful such as Madeline, or a more serious commission such as Albert Camus’ L’Etranger, which I have done in the past. Beyond its artistic appeal, this box is a versatile addition to your home decor. Use it to store precious trinkets, matchboxes, or as a charming candy container.
Inspired by Ludwig Bemelmans' beloved Madeline series, this hand-sculpted box pays homage to the spirited little girl who captured hearts worldwide. The intricate hand-painted details showcase Madeline's classic blue dress, yellow hat, and adventurous spirit.
The images on this listing are of the piece that is currently available. If you would like to commission another book, or multiples of this piece, please bear in mind that each piece is handmade and therefore slight variations will occur. Also, please allow 8-10 weeks for production.
Please also note that each ceramic piece is lovingly handcrafted, and minor imperfections or flaws may be present, adding to its unique charm and character. These variations are a testament to the artisanal nature of C Cubed products.

Having been born and raised in NYC, I find myself in a unique position to observe and mimic the surroundings of my everyday, past and present. My inspiration varies from childhood visits to the Met, getting bodega hot chocolate after school, and onto the more recent experience of my life, such as getting a degree in Art History from NYU, where I studied the works of modern abstract artists such as Marcel Duchamp and Andy Warhol. I loved Duchamp’s readymade collection–the idea that anything can be art. I think that anything can be art, but anything can be ceramic too. Ceramic seemed the clear medium of choice for me. I started making pottery in middle school, but unfortunately never saw it through because of all the challenges it presents; access to materials, kilns, etc. Then, while studying at NYU and interning at an architecture firm, I gained exposure to more art and pottery. I managed to squeeze handbuilding lessons into my schedule, and from that first class I was hooked. Between graduating NYU and getting hired as a designer at said architecture firm, I continued going to the studio after work and on the weekends, eventually leading up to building a collection for my first show at the All Streets gallery located in the East Village
