Music Box by Duccommun Girod playing 2 per Turn of the Cylinder

About the Item

Extremely large music box made in 1854 by Duccommun Girod in Switzerland. Duccommun Girod was around early in the 19th century when music boxes first appeared on the market. Now this house is best known to collectors for its excellent quality. The mechanism has a very thick cylinder (8cm diameter), with a length of 33cm. The comb is very finely built with very fine teeth. The quality of this box is recognisable in this way (many more teeth, much more elaborate keyboard than a 'normal' music box). The box has delicate inlay work on the lid, a piece of forgotten marquetry art. The melodies are very special. "Sehnsucht nach Belgien" suggests that this box was once ordered by a Belgian buyer. A very beautiful piece, with a rich history. Signed : Duccommun Girod on the bedplate Ser nr : 31677 8 tunes (2 per revolution of the cylinder) This box underwent a complete restoration, one can enjoy it again for more than 100 years.
