About the Item
Music box made in Switzerland in the mid-19th century.
This rare snuffbox plays 2 melodies, on a comb made of several small parts. (Until the mid-19th century, it was not yet possible to make a comb from 1 part).
The box is made of pressed horn and has a miniature painting on the lid. The miniature is behind glass and depicts a mountain landscape with a waterfall. On the front, the control buttons are decorated with mother-of-pearl.
Because of the general condition of this piece, it can be called very exceptional, all damages and signs of use indicate a past with great care and dedication. It is over 100 years old, so there are some flaws befitting the age of this object.
