Russian tabatière with a princely coat of arms and the city map of Veliki Ustyug, master Alexander Ivanov Shilin (1800-1842; niello smith master 1824-1841, from 1836 head of the craftsmen, one of the most important masters of his time; Goldberg, no. 78), Veliki Ustyug, c. 1830, silver, gilt, Niello decoration, 3.5 x 7.5 x 6.0 cm, approx. 205 gr. Prov.: A la Vieille Cité, 350 rue St. Honoré, Paris. About the name: Veliki = Great, Ustyug = mouth of the Jug city (ca. 900 km east of St. Petersburg) belongs to the Grand Duchy of Moscow since the end of the 14th century.

    An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver gilt castle top vinaigrette depicting Abbotsford House; an addition to our collectable box collection. This exceptional antique sterling silver gilt vinaigrette has a rectangular form with rounded corners. The cover of this fine vinaigrette is embellished with a scene of Abbotsford House in high relief. The sides of the box are embellished with panels of engine turned decoration. The underside of the box is ornamented with engine turned decoration incorporating a rectangular cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved initials 'EA'. Both the base and cover are embellished with applied scrolling leaf decorated borders. The hinged silver gilt vinaigrette cover allows access to the original hallmarked hinged, pierced decorated silver gilt grille, in addition to the original sponge.
