Singing Bird Music Box by Karl Griesbaum

Video audio removed by 1st Dibs, original audio version available please contact us. Featuring Enamelled Decoration Signed on the Movement Circa 1930 Singing Bird Music Box. The music box of rectangular form extensively decorated in enamel with a gilt metal body. The box features multiple continental scenes with vast landscapes amongst buildings and a central classical scene located on the domed lid. The scenes all boarded with an engine turned decoration to the gilt metal. The base of the music box with the key hole and hallmark ‘EB METAL’. When opened via the screws the music box internally reveals the Karl Griesbaum logo KG besides a bird with mountains above the word Germany. The music box dates to the Art Deco period circa 1930. The Singing Bird Box comes complete with original bird shaped key for winding it up. Notes Karl Griesbaum (1872-1941) was founded in 1905 and originally produced clock parts but soon went onto specialise in the production of singing bird boxes. Gresbaum were the dominant producer of singing bird boxes in the 20th century until they closed in 1988. Each Griesbaum box featured only one song and one movement which was offered in three build qualities. The firm offered 30 different case styles and often the movement was often a secondary consideration to the decoration. Measurements (centimetres) 5cm High x 10.5cm Wide x 6.5cm Deep
