Size and shape-wise it is very well balanced and also because of its rounded edges it breathes a calm elegance that is a pleasure to look at. Especially the technique by which the flowers on the lid were created in bas relief is very rare, delicate and time consuming, but the result is something of true beauty. First the branches, but also the flowers, the leaf veins and the core of the flowers were very undeeply carved (more like hand-engraved) with a knife. After that the non-carved surface around it would have been completely hand-hammered with an awl-like tool. The flowers and sides are created with the same technique, but without the hammered surface. This makes the striking (no pun intended) lid stand out even more.
