Tunbridge Ware - A Robert Vorley Painted Lady Butterfly Box, 2010
Mr Robert Vorley is the only current exponent of Tunbridge Ware worthy of the name, and worked with absolutely authentic, period methods of manufacture. Now in to his eighties, the work of this former architectural model-maker will never be surpassed.

Origin : Essex, England
Decoration : hinged two-part box; five faces featuring mosaic butterfly images set within banded and continuous key-line borders and rosewood veneers; a six-square geometric band around the four sides of the lid; green needle cord lining; made from 20,000 individual tesserae
Size : 9.4 W x 9.4 D x 10.0 H cm
Condition : As new, other than a couple of tiny scuffs to the corners and a very fine scratch to the top of the lid
Restoration : none
Notes : this particular box is made from decorative elements consisting of fifteen different woods set in to rosewood veneers; signed and dated to the bottom - ROBERT VORLEY 2010.
