DuBarry Ivorine Celluloid Jewelry Box with a Turtle Shaped Top

About the Item

Celluloid made its appearance in the mid-19th century. One of its most popular forms was to imitate ivory including the grain lines. This jewelry box is marked "PY-RA-LIN" DuBarry. The top of the box is what the Victorian period referred to as a turtle shape, however, this piece was probably made circa 1900. It is in very solid condition and is lined in a rose colored velvet. There is a small repair to the hinge found at the back of the box (does not effect the opening and closing). The interior is divided into two compartments. There is a small button at the front of the box for openings and closings 6.25" x 4.50"
