George III Circa 1785 From our Tea Caddy collection, we are delighted to offer this Rare Original Hand-Painted Sycamore Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddy of Octagonal form veneered in Sycamore with the original hand-painted panels featuring Green swags and Red scrolling motifs within Red penned borders. The lid features a Silvered Sheffield plated loop handle with a matching octagonal base plate. The front of the tea caddy has a diamond-shaped bone escutcheon. When opened the Tea Caddy reveals twin oval floating lids with further original paintwork and the original foil lining to the caddy compartments and inside the lid. Each Tea Caddy lid is finished with a turned brass handle. The Tea Caddy dates to the Georgian period during the reign of George III circa 1790. The painted Georgian Tea Caddy comes complete with a working lock and tasselled key. Provenance The Tea Caddy belonged to the Kunzer Collection Sycamore is a member of the Maple family, found in Europe. It is light yellow in colour and is often a very clean wood, with a straight, fine grain. The wood is often pippy. However, these pips are usually a very similar colour to the rest of the wood making them hardly visible. Georgian, a period in British history dating from 1714-1837, the Georgian era after the Hanoverian kings George I, George II, George III and George IV.
