Pair of Silver Candelabras, Ernest Cardheilac, Paris, Late 19th Century

About the Item

This pair of mid-late 19th century French solid silver four-light candelabra by the renowned Parisian silversmith Ernest Cardheilac is worked in the Rocaille style. Hallmarks: 1. “Cardeilhac PARIS” 2. Individual maker’s mark “E.C.” for Ernest Cardheilac 'active 1885-1904' with a medal of honor and crescent below, 3. Minerva for the guarantee 1=950 silver, 2=800 silver, here: 1), 4. The letter “S” and the numbers “4” and “3” for the series of the model. The House of Cardeilhac was founded in 1804 by Antoine-Vital Cardeilhac specialized in silver cutlery and hollowware, the company was ultimately honored with a Gold Medal at the 1878 World Trade Fair (Exposition Universelle).
