About the Item

A wonderful pair of small Venetian parcel gilt and paired torchères or candle holders from the middle to the end of the 18th century. Each torchère measures 26 inches high. The base is 8.5 inches wide and 7.5 inches deep. The use of these objects took place in the ecclesiastical sphere. These torchère were sacred objects placed used on the alter of a church or in a niche. As they were used on a church alter and only viewable from the front, the backs were never meant to be seen. Therefore, they are only lacquered and gilded on the front side. They have visible signs of age including small worm holes typical of wood items used in churches with easy worm access. The torchères have been treated to insure there is no issue with wood worms. Item located in Italy, please inquire for shipping.
