Japanese Meiji bronze Perfume Incense Burner

About the Item

Detailed information: Exceptional finely chiselled Japanese patinated bronze censer from the Meiji period, with high relief design. The shaft, with a rotating decoration of snakes and branches, is supported by a base decorated with foliage and snakes. In the central body we find a large phoenix inside the paulownia as a typical Japanese Meiji decorative element. On the back we find exceptional chiselled work depicting dragons. To complete the work we find surmounted by an openwork plate or lid that serves both as a brazier but also as a vase or container. The phoenix and paulownia are a popular combination in Japanese art. The phoenix is said to nest only in the branches of paulownia, and the appearance of a phoenix signals the beginning of a new era of peace and abundance. The eagle represents power, especially military power. This work is of remarkable beauty and great majesty, this object will certainly enrich the most important and elegant living rooms.
