About the Item
A Pair of Elegant and Ornate Gilt Bronze Candlesticks from the 19th Century. In the style of Louis XVI.
This pair of gilt bronze candlesticks are highly ornate in the style of Louis XVI, reflecting an appreciation for the elegant forms of classical origin. The base begins with dentil ornamentation, followed by a stylized leaf ornament before narrowing into the top of the base. From there on, several types of vertical patterns, resembling fluting, follow. The middle part features festons complete with foliage draping the pillar, which continues into the top which is in the shape of a classical urn which forms the candleholder. The whole of the candlesticks are beautifully rendered in gilt bronze.
