Royal Goedewaagen Dutch Minimalist Candle Holder
About the Item
Royal Goedewaagen, candle holder, The Netherlands, early 20th century.
A very minimal and therefore distinct piece. This candle holder has a very honest and straightforward shape and looks timeless and modern, although this candle holder is at least 70 years old now. The craquelé patination gained over the years gives it extra character.
This minimal and timeless quality is its great strength, proving a good design can be as modern in the 21th century as it was in the early 1900s. This candle holder must be from 1910 or later, because the addition of ‘Royal’ to the name ‘Goedewaagen’. Existing for 300 years already in 1910, the company got awarded with this royal status in that same year.
In vintage condition with a few minor chips which can be seen on the photos. Signed ‘Royal Goedewaagen Gouda’ at the underside of the candle holder.
